Following the Norman Conquest of the Bristish Isles in 1066 the archaeological record is of limited help in regards to understanding the jet industry in a Medieval context. Documentary evidence however from literature suggests that jet is still a high status material and in common usage. The term ‘jet-black’ is coined by William Shakespeare in the C16th.
