Antique Whitby Jet brooch “Leda and the swan”

A nice example of a cameo depiction a classic theme. Leda, the wife of Tyndareus the Spartan king and daughter of a powerful nymph, is seduced by Jupiter who transformed himself into a swan. The cameo is in a Whitby Jet mount measuring 38x30mm. The original catch is in good working order.
