Grave goods

Whitby Jet amulets are found in British grave assemblages since the Early Neolithic. This practice continues throughout the Bronze Age where jet is used to signify status in society. The tradition endures through the Roman and Anglo-Scandinavian periods and even today, we are still asked to make items for burial alongside loved ones. Our most frequently requested item is a simple jet bead as found in Viking age burials. The jet beads are believed to be for amuletic protection and are usually found at the foot of the graves. Grave goods vary greatly in their design and the narrative behind them, however, and we are happy to work with you to find the most appropriate design to fulfil your requirements.
